Homologation of degrees

Did you know that you have the possibility to have your university degree recognized in Spain?

If you live or plan to live in Spain, this is an excellent opportunity for you to practice your profession here. That's right! You can do it through different procedures such as homologation of degrees, validation or equivalence. But which one is right for you? We explain it to you:

HOMOLOGATION OF DEGREES

  • CONVALIDATION: This is done in order to recognize studies begun abroad and thus be able to continue and finish them in Spain. In this case, a set of subjects taken and passed abroad will be validated and you will have to take the rest of them.
  • EQUIVALENCE: It is the procedure that seeks the recognition of a foreign degree for NON-regulated professions. E.g.: Journalism, Accounting, Administration, Etc.
This recognition at a Bachelor or Master academic level is required in public examinations or contracts in the public sector for foreign degrees, there are also private companies that sometimes request it to confirm the academic level.
  • APPROVAL: This is the procedure that must be followed in order for Spain to officially recognize higher education degrees awarded by foreign institutions as official Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degrees that give access to regulated professions in Spain. The homologation of a foreign degree to a Spanish degree that allows access to a regulated profession will entail the possibility of exercising the regulated profession in question under the same conditions as the holders of the Spanish degrees that enable them to do so.

Remember that you can always contact us from anywhere in the world.

Royal Decree 889/2022, of October 18, establishes the professions for which homologation must be requested, since the declaration of equivalence at degree and academic level does NOT have professional effects.
