The exchange of driving licenses that had been in force with Venezuela since 2005 has been definitively cancelled.
Since 2017, Venezuelan authorities began issuing a new model of driving license in PDF format, replacing the traditional plastic card permit, which did not comply with the provisions of the agreement.
At the beginning of 2021 the DGT suspended the exchange of Venezuelan driving licenses for the hundreds of fake licenses issued in Venezuela, and given the impossibility of reaching an agreement with the Venezuelan government, they have now decided to definitively cancel the possibility of such exchange.
This decision by the Spanish Government breaks an agreement that had been in force for 18 years and leaves Venezuelans at a disadvantage, since they will have to obtain a driving license in Spain from scratch.
As a result of this situation, hundreds of Venezuelan citizens have been accused of false documentation and have had to take their cases to criminal courts.
